The Joy of Design Mandala Series Puzzle 6 Arrangement 2
Painting - Digitally Collaged Mixed Media
The whole Joy of Design Mandala Series is really about seeing and perception. I am using the individual Joy of Design series panels as pieces in a puzzle and creating alterable arrangements with them. I usually pick several paintings to use for any Mandala Series Puzzle arrangement and alter the placement nine times over to create nine different looking arrangements that are put together from the same pieces but in different order. To me this is a metaphor about altering one's way of seeing by choosing a different perspective. This practice is also meditative with a surprise at the end. I do not know what the totality will look like until I get there and in the meanwhile, I am exploring.
So much of what we conceive as reality is more or less a figment of our own imagination. The puzzles in this series are also intended to mirror the reality of the viewer to them by showing different recognizable forms that are really more of a result of the viewer's own brain activity than anything else. I cannot help thinking about the following statement based on quantum physics theories (but cannot recall who wrote it): "The moment I saw her, she changed". The whole world is a mirror to us and we are also a mirror to the whole world. I like to look at these works over and over again because I never stop seeing new things in them.
